Le Sibille by Raphael

The splendid Renaissance church of Santa Maria della Pace, not far from Piazza Navona, houses a splendid fresco by Raphael: The Four Sibyls receiving angelic instruction (1514), commisioned by Agostino Chigi, the Papal Banker who also commisioned the Trionfo di Galatea. Michelangelo's influence is clearly evident, but yet Raphael's figures posses a grace which not even the other great master could imitate. I highly suggest a visit to this church as it houses also other important works by other important artists and the famous Chiostro del Bramante.
